Painful defeat again against bottom side Mets ll

Another depleted team and another defeat for Dundee’s men in National League 1.  The 3/0 defeat to Glasgow Mets ll gave the bottom side their first league win of the season.  The Dundee side travelled west to Motherwell with most of their recognised starting line-up missing, after Oz Dowie was out with an ankle injury, sustained the previous week against Edinburgh ll.   The visitors started well and took a 9/4 lead with points from Dave Bonnar, Colin McEvoy and Lewis Crockart.  The lead evaporated quickly as a run of 6 points as Dundee struggled to score on their first attack.  Both sides won runs of points but Mets held a 24/18 lead holding set point.  A late run from Jamie Salvin’s service closed the gap to 23/24 but a swift point in side out gave Mets the set 25/23.

The second set was all about the home side as their capitalised on the momentum they had generated.  Dave Bonnar, with 2 points and 1 each from Jamie Salvin and Lewis Crockart were the only scores that the demoralised visitors could muster.  The Mets side contributed 10 points in an untidy and error-ridden set.  Mets won 25/15.  A change of rotation from the Dundee coach seemed to have the desired effect as more Dundee points were secured.   A string of errors then gave Mets an advantage but Dundee responded in determined fashion and won a run of 5 points including a ‘stuff block’ from Mark Donnachie to haul his side closer at 14/16.  The good work was undone by 6 unforced errors from the Dundee attack and Mets, who are already relegated, achieved their only league win of the season 25/18.
