Men Secure Double Win Over Mets

Dundee’s men continued their rich vein of form with a convincing 3/0 win over Glasgow Mets in Craigie High School last Saturday.  The Glasgow side stole a set last weekend in their Scottish Cup game but, after an uncharacteristic start when Mets led 6/1, the home side were in control.  The power of Rad Marinov and Mike Coward closed the gap to tie the scores at 10/10 then a run of 8 points with only 2 against, took the score to 18/12.  Dundee’s Kevin Chisholm and Craig Goldthorp tied up the right side of the court, scoring 4 points each to take the score to 22/15.  The visitors were relying on errors from the home side but scores from Coward and Oz Dowie gave Dundee the set 25/18.

Mike Coward was missing from the Cup game and made up for lost court time by winning 7 points in the second set.  Dundee stepped on the accelerator to lead 5/1, then 14/7 and then 23/15.  Scores from Dave Bonnar (4) and Lewis Crockart (3) gave Dundee the set 25/17. A change of line-up in the third set kept the pressure on Mets, as Barry Millar won the first 2 points with a net block with Oz Dowie and then a service ‘Ace’.  Mets were struggling to score points and could not keep up with the home side. The game became untidy with errors on both sides, but Dundee had a 24/14 lead, with Chisholm and Rad Marinov both scoring multiple points.  A run of 2 errors and 2 service ‘Aces’ helped make the score closer, with the home side finally winning 25/18 to climb to second place in League 1.
