Frustration as women lose to Jets in cup

Published by admin on

At home in Craigie High School, the ladies’ team were hosting Premier Division side Jets in their round 2 game. The home side started well and opened up a 9/6 lead with scores from Laura Ward and Natalia Stopowska. Nicola McKenzie added more points increasing the score to 20/7 and Hannah Lawrie scored 3 service aces which allowed Dundee to take the set 25/20.

The set loss provoked a reaction from Jets as they scored quickly to lead 16/11. A series of 4, then 3 errors and hits from McKenzie and Stopowska in counterattack gave Dundee an encouraging 19/17 lead. The game turned on its head when a rotation fault was called by the referee. This upset the home side and they let the set slip away with a run of service points and 2 hitting errors to lose 20/25. The next two sets were scrappy with Jets powering over heavy serves and Dundee countering with brave defence and smart hitting. The hard-hitting visitors won the next two sets but gave up 21 points with service and hitting errors. Their power and experience saw them into the next round, winning 25/18, 25/18.
