Ladies zoom to play-off place with win over Jets

The ladies travelled to Edinburgh to take on Jets ll in their final game before the playoffs. Injury has robbed the team of two big hitters with Sarah Driscoll out with a back injury and Natalia Stopowska out for the rest of the season with an Achilles tear. Reinforcements were drafted in and Krystine Shand started her debut with a clever hit, allowing Dundee to move swiftly to an 11/3 lead. Nicola McKenzie was the main scorer from the left of the court with Emma Clarkson and Shand scoring the first net block. McKenzie and Clarkson dominated the scoring as Dundee took the first set 25/20.

The second set started with a run of 10 points with McKenzie again scoring with support from Sara Khalil and Ilona Zglinocka. Jets came back with 2 big serves but Dundee responded with hits from Agnes Bednarek and Zglinocka to take their points to 17/6. The home side found some resistance and closed the gap to 19/15 with some big serves and slower attacks. Dundee responded well with a run of points from Nicola McKenzie and Krystine Shand to win the set 25/15.

A run of 8 points from service and 2 errors from Dundee gave Jets a healthy 11/4 lead in the third set. Fortunately, the Jets bubble burst and they handed 8 points in mistakes to the stubborn Dundee defence. Nicole McKenzie piled on the pressure and helped to close the gap to 16/20 to Jets. Shand and Clarkson combined well to put Dundee ahead at 21/20. A series of errors from both sides took the score to 24/24 before McKenzie found the floor twice, winning the set 26/24. This win secures a second-place finish going into the play-offs.
