Revenge Against Young Edinburgh Side for Men

Published by admin on

Both sides were reduced in numbers for the men’s game.  Dundee were without 3 players due to injury and illness which allowed Mark Donnachie to take his place as a hitter.  Donnachie and his fellow attackers Dave Bonnar, Lewis Crockart and Oz Dowie all found the floor frequently as they moved swiftly to a 14/3 lead.  A run of 4 errors in a row gave the visitors some hope but the set was finished off quickly with Rad Marinov scoring 5 points to win 25/14.  The tables were turned in the second set with the Edinburgh side always just ahead and at 3/1 they piled on the pressure and forced the Dundee side int a series of poor plays.  Edinburgh took the set 25/18.

The third set turned into a classic encounter with both sides trading points.  There was never a 2 point gap between the teams and the score was tied at 20/20.  Mark Donnachie scored a service ‘ace’ for Dundee to lead 23/21.  City responded and had set point at 24/23.  Barry Millar scored a block point to level at 24/24. City had set point again at 26/25 and again at 28/27.  Lewis Crockart scored twice for Dundee to have set points at 29/28 and 30/29!  Crockart then hit out to give the visitors set point at 32/31.  Marinov scored a net block and Crockart hit the winning point for Dundee to win the set 34/32!

The fourth set was a story of runs of points.  Dundee scored 6 in a row to come from 2/2 to 8/2.  Edinburgh then scored a run of 10 points only for Dundee to respond with a run of 12 in reply from the Lewis Crockart service.  The visitors were unable to mount a scoring attack allowing Dundee to score in counter attack and soon won the set 25/15 with hits from Bonnar, Marinov and Oz Dowie.  The win lifts Dundee to second in the table going into the Christmas break and close to securing a top 3 finish before the top and bottom split in February.
