‘Stuffy Win’ at Last for Ladies’ Side

Published by admin on

It was another day of mixed fortunes for Dundee in their national League 1 games last Saturday in Craigie High School.  Edinburgh Jets ll were the visitors in the ladies’ game and took an early 14/10 lead, with Natalia Stopowska scoring most of the home side’s points.  A run of 7 points, with 3 from Clair Pollock’s service and hits from Stopowska and Agnes Bednarek, gave Dundee a 17/14 lead.  Some untidy play with errors from Jets and 2 hits from Ariana Scarponi, gave Dundee the set 25/18.  The second set started with Sacha Tissot scoring 4 points from her service, then Stopowska and Scarponi put the Jets defence under pressure and Dundee went 2 sets up, winning the second set 25/22.

It all went horribly wrong in the third set, with a run of 5 and then 10 points from the powerful Jets service to lose the set 9/25.  The fourth set swung back and forward but the home side pulled ahead with Stopowska, Bednarek and Scarponi all scoring in a run of 8 points to lead 23/17.  Disaster struck again as a run of 7 points gave Jets set point at 24/23! Two points from a service error and a Natalia Stopowska hit gave Dundee match point, but Jets came back to steal the set 28/26.  Jets were up 7/2 in the fifth set, but Dundee’s hitters pulled them back into the set, giving them an 11/10 lead.  Jets made it 13/11 to them but 4 errors from the Jets attack handed the set and game to Dundee 15/13.
